Secrets of the Mangroves
Mangroves are a magical place where new life springs up and encourages other life to grow where the pioneers started. When the pods of the white mangrove fall into water they are carried along until they hit mud where they will develop very quickly into fully formed trees. These trees then produce more pods which fall spear like into the mud and grow, creating a beginning for other plants. There may be no other group of plants with such highly developed adaptations to extreme conditions. Once the mangrove is established the animals you find there are fascinating; crabs, mudskippers, mole rats, natal robins, samango monkeys and crocodiles. Secrets of the Mangroves is a fascinating and beautiful programme, featuring many animals that are rarely seen.
